With DACA threatened, Mark Kelly urges passage of DREAM Act
Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments in a case that could eliminate the DACA program, which protects young immigrants brought here as children — also known as Dreamers — from deportation. There are about 25,000 DACA recipients in Arizona.
U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kelly issued the following statement reaffirming his support for Dreamers and an earned pathway to citizenship for them:
“Dreamers have grown up here, gone to school here, and are contributing to their communities – just like my kids.
“That Dreamers could once again face uncertainty over their status is a total failure by Washington and bad for Arizona.
“Instead of playing politics and waiting around to see what happens with a court case, the Senate should fix this right now by providing Dreamers with an earned pathway to citizenship.”
Kelly has previously stated his support for the DREAM Act, a bipartisan proposal that would provide Dreamers with an earned pathway to citizenship.
