McSally Caught Using Misleading Industry Talking Points to Distract from Her Own Record on Pre-Existing Conditions
Yesterday, the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics reported that recent attacks run by a Mitch McConnell super PAC and Senator McSally are using misleading industry talking points to falsely claim that Mark Kelly supports a health care plan that would “close hospitals across Arizona.” The group points out that the attack ad uses studies paid for by big pharmaceutical and health insurance companies that fear “they would take a financial hit from the proposal.”
Other ads attacking Kelly have been proven to be false or misleading. Senator McSally has also lied about her own record of voting over and over again to gut or undermine protections for Arizonans with pre-existing conditions, and even now she is backing a lawsuit that could eliminate these protections in the middle of a pandemic.
OpenSecrets: GOP groups, healthcare industry attack Democrats’ public option
Republican super PACs aligned with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) are attacking Democratic Senate candidates over their support for a public health insurance option, arguing the policy would lead to widespread hospital closures in rural areas.
Each of those ads cite a study that was paid for by a group of major insurers, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals. That deep-pocketed coalition is currently running its own ad campaign aiming to reduce support for the public option.
