Mark Kelly Statement on Tax Day

Today is the first Tax Day Americans have under the tax law that passed Congress at the end of 2017. That law gave the vast majority of its benefits to the wealthiest and big corporations.

One report has indicated that significantly more U.S. corporations – including Halliburton and Eli Lilly & Co. – are paying zero in federal income taxes as compared to last year.

“The fact that so many more big corporations are making billions of dollars in profits while paying zero dollars in federal income taxes shows that special interests have way too much influence over politicians in Washington,” said Mark Kelly. “Middle class Arizonans are realizing that this massive tax bill wasn’t written for them, and that most of the benefits are going to the wealthy and big corporations. Tax reform should have rewarded regular hardworking people, encouraged innovation in our economy, and put more money back in the pockets of middle class Arizonans instead of corporate CEOs.”
