Mark Kelly Announces First Labor Endorsement from UFCW Local 99, Largest AZ Union
Today, U.S. Senate Candidate Mark Kelly announced his first labor endorsement from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 99. With more than 23,000 members in Arizona including grocery workers, legal aid workers, custodial workers and others, UFCW Local 99 is the largest union in Arizona.
“I’ve spent decades fighting for working Arizonans and know a champion for workers when I see one – that’s Mark Kelly,” said James C. McLaughlin, President of UFCW Local 99. “Mark comes from a union family and knows the importance of having a union to fight for fair wages, good health care, and protections in the workplace. And unlike a lot of politicians, Mark won’t be taking his marching orders from corporate PACs, and that matters to us. UFCW Local 99 and its more than 23,000 members are proud to have Mark’s back as he runs for Senate because we know he’ll have our back in Washington D.C.”
“I know the importance of unions to working families in Arizona, and it means a lot to me to have the support of UFCW Local 99,” said Mark Kelly. “Everyone knows the story of the shooting that changed our family forever, but one things folks may not know is that it was Safeway employees, UFCW Local 99 members, who were among the first to help victims before first responders arrived. That’s what hardworking Arizonans do – they lift one another up – and that’s how I’ll fight for working families in the Senate.”
